Anthony Stepter
Anthony D. Stepter is originally from Grand Rapids, MI. Anthony works for the school of Art and Art History at UIC as both the program coordinator for the Museum and Exhibition Studies graduate program and the coordinator of public programming for Gallery 400. These roles allow him to work with students and the public through advising, special projects, and the annual Voices lecture series. Anthony has undergraduate degrees in sociology and marketing from Grand Valley State University as well as an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Prior to graduate school, Anthony worked for the Museum Education Department at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Continuing Studies Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Americans for the Arts, and the Grand Rapids Art Museum. As an independent organizer, Anthony has hosted and produced several events designed to create new and interesting modes of engagement around the arts. Stitchy was a monthly self-directed sewing party held at Roxaboxen Exhibitions between 2011 and 2013.
For two years Anthony was the co-coordinator of the Interlink Visiting Artist Program, a lecture series that brought artists from around the Great Lakes region to SAIC for lectures and studio visits. Anthony was a juror for the 2013 apexart Unsolicited Proposals Program as well as the 2013 ACRE artist residency. He also served as a curatorial fellow for the 2012 ACRE season organizing four group exhibitions with ACRE artists. Recent projects include Call for Artists, presented during the 2nd Floor Rear Festival; participation in Photos for Prisoners in Solitary Confinement, a prison reform project initiated by Tamms Year Ten; and the development of a project on Chicago-based art spaces and collectives that no longer exist called Extinct Entities.
