Join the Critical Distance Board of Directors!
Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in the arts and beyond? Curious about curating and connection-making across cultures, disciplines, and other divides? Critical Distance Centre for Curators (CDCC) is seeking experienced, art-loving individuals to join our dynamic Board of Directors.
As a Board member, you’ll help shape the future of a unique not-for-profit dedicated to critical curatorial inquiry and practice since its founding in 2013. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Critical Distance’s next decade while enhancing your governance experience, expanding your network, and developing cross-sectoral leadership skills in a supportive, collegial, and hands-on environment.
We are currently recruiting for all positions, including Treasurer and Secretary, for two-year terms to start (renewable). Please note this is a volunteer, hybrid position.

General qualifications:
- Experience with not-for-profit governance including Board roles and responsibilities
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; attention to detail
- Ability to commit time and participate actively in quarterly Board meetings, plus committee meetings as-needed, approx. 3-5 hours/month
- Interest in the arts, culture, and curatorial study and practice
Additional qualifications and responsibilities for the Treasurer position:
- Professional background in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA preferred
- Experience with not-for-profit financial management and reporting is an asset
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
- Chair the finance committee and provide financial leadership to the Board
- Guide financial policies, monitor financial performance, assess risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, CRA requirements, and audit processes
- Review and present financial reports at Board meetings (quarterly and annual)
Additional responsibilities for the Secretary position:
- Prepare and distribute meeting materials in collaboration with the Co-Chairs and Executive Director
- Record and maintain accurate minutes of Board and committee meetings
- Ensure records of Board decisions, policies, and governance are current and accessible
- Support effective communication among Board members and between Board and Staff
- Track Board membership, terms, and attendance, ensuring good governance practices
- Assist Treasurer and Director with compliance requirements for regulatory bodies
