Lacie Burning is a Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) and Onondaga artist and curator raised on Six Nations of the Grand River located in Southern Ontario. They work in photography, video, installation, and sculpture and are currently studying at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Jeannette Ehlers Artist

Jeannette Ehlers’s work is characterized by its experimental nature. Often using image manipulation in her photographic and video-based works, she explores identity and meaning within these changeable terms, in both subtle and immediate ways. Inspired by her own Danish/Caribbean background, she has created cinematic universes that delve into ethnicity and identity, conveying imaginative stories in a visual language that is sharp yet engaging. Her works revolve around big questions and difficult issues, such as Denmark’s role as a slave trading nation, an aspect of Danish cultural heritage that is often glossed over in the country’s historiography. Katelyn Gallucci’s practice is informed by her material explorations in the medium of photography. Karen Henderson Artist

Karen Henderson is a visual artist working in time-based media, photography, sculpture and site-specific installation. Karen grew up in Scotland, leaving there to attend the Central School of Art and Camberwell School of Art in London, England from 1982-86, after which she moved to Canada where she completed her MFA at the University of Victoria, British Columbia in 1988.  Since 1989 she has lived and worked in Toronto, Ontario, and has exhibited work in Canada and internationally. Maxwell Hyett Artist

Maxwell Hyett is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist. His work explores issues of meaning, simultaneity, and the relationship between language and reality. These issues emerge primarily as a concern with information and its reception: how is information made; where do we keep it; how do we retrieve it; and how does it translate through these processes? Maxwell develops these ideas by creating collisions between synonyms and related terms to question the unavoidable connections we make between symbols and learned meaning. His recent work uses relief sculpture and laser cutting techniques to explore these ideas. Continue reading

Patricia Kaersenhout Artist

Born in the Netherlands to parents from Suriname, Patricia Kaersenhout is a visual artist, activist, and womanist who is on an artistic journey to investigate her Surinamese background in relation to her upbringing in a West European culture. The political thread in her work raises questions about the African Diaspora’s movements and its relation to feminism, sexuality, racism and the history of slavery. She was a teacher in global art and social practice at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam and is a regular lecturer at the Decolonial summerschool in Middelburg. Currently she is an advisor at the Mondriaan fund and she works on several projects in the Netherlands and abroad. Continue reading

Astarte Rowe Curator

Astarte Rowe is an independent scholar and curator currently based in Toronto. She earned her doctorate in Art History from the University of Melbourne, with a nomination for the Chancellor’s Prize. She has presented her research internationally, and has written for peer-reviewed journals on such subjects as Photoshop and Mannerism; anamorphosis and contemporary Indigenous art; the Lucretian simulacrum and Albert Namatjira; desertification and Australian Aboriginal art discourse; and William Palmer and Newfoundland Regionalism. She curated The Amoebic Workshop in collaboration with the Patterson Research Group from Carleton University.
