Call for CDCC Board Members

Now in our sixth year, Critical Distance is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, and knowledgeable individuals to join the organization’s active Board of Directors for a three year term (renewable) starting in April 2019. Anyone who is committed to supporting and participating in CDCC’s programs, mission, and organizational development is encouraged to apply; experience in fundraising, and financial and strategic planning in the not-for profit arts and culture environment are big plusses. As with all of our programs and initiatives, Critical Distance welcomes candidates with a range of backgrounds, skills, and experiences to participate.

Critical Distance is currently focused on considering how to evolve or expand for the future. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with colleagues on positioning the organization for long-term sustainability and to continue to build the organization’s

profile locally, nationally, and internationally. The CDCC Board of Directors works closely with the Director, team, and volunteers to realize the organization’s unique mandate, establish priorities for fundraising, programming, and operations, and advocate for sustainable financial and administrative practices across the sector. Board members play an active role in fostering vital, responsive, and accessible programs for many distinct audiences.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Board members are responsible for the operation of CDCC in accordance with the strategic plan, policies and by-laws. More specifically, Board members:

— Attend and participate in the scheduled Board and Committee meetings (8-10 per year);

— Serve on at least one additional administrative or programming committee;

— Actively engage in and support CDCC programs;

— Collaborate with team and stakeholders to advance CDCC’s mission and vision;

— Contribute to expanding the organization’s objectives and operational goals;

— Participate in HR, administrative, planning, programming and financial decision-making;

— Assist in drafting and monitoring policies, governance and budgets;

— Act as ambassadors for the organization and stewards for participants and partners;

— Contribute to fundraising initiatives.

Since 2013, through the production and co-production of a wide-ranging program of multidisciplinary guest-curated exhibitions and related publications and events, Critical Distance Centre for Curators (CDCC) has pursued its mandate as the only not-for-profit gallery, publisher, and professional association in Toronto dedicated to supporting and advancing curatorial practice and inquiry at all levels of professional development and across the spectrum of curatorial and artistic perspectives. With a focus on critically engaged, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary practices, underrepresented artists and art forms, and community outreach and education in art and exhibition-making, Critical Distance provides opportunities, resources, and an open platform for the exchange of ideas on curating and exhibition-making as ways to engage and inform audiences from all walks of life.
