Starting this Spring, we are excited to welcome Alana Traficante, Maegan Broadhurst, and Ingrid Jones to our Board of Directors!

Meet our new and existing Board members below:

MAEGAN BROADHURST is an arts administrator and curator based in Toronto. Maegan holds an MFA in Documentary Media from Ryerson University, and a BA specializing in Communication Studies at Concordia University. Professionally, Maegan has worked within organizations such as: 8eleven, Canadian Art, Oakville Galleries, Images Festival, The City of Toronto, and The National Gallery of Canada.

MIMI JOH-CARNELLA teaches at OCAD U and is an active volunteer in the arts, holding positions with multiple Toronto-based arts organizations, including the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Partners in Art, and Vibe Arts for Children and Youth. She is interested in how art practices can critically reflect and respond to our society and how they ultimately shape our culture. Joh-Carnella previously worked for many years with German and Austrian Expressionist art in New York. She holds degrees in Art History from Cornell University and OCAD U.

Over a 20-year career in media arts, INGRID JONES developed a multidisciplinary practice utilizing design, film, and photography to marry art and commerce and engage topics of identity and marginalization. Using her background in communications as the foundation for her work, Ingrid conceptualizes and manages corporate campaigns, arts and culture publications and exhibitions. In addition to her role as co-owner of Seed9 Photography and Mutti Art Projects gallery, she has been featured in the European Month of Photography, Vice Berlin, The Design Exchange, and Computer Arts UK.

OANA TANASE is a Toronto-based independent curator and visual arts researcher. She holds a PhD on documentary practices in contemporary art. Tanase has curated various projects in Toronto, including Script, Stage, Screen (Images Festival), Moving Right Along (TYPOLOGY), and As If All Yesterday’s News Should Be Rehearsed Today For A Better Tomorrow (YYZ Artists’ Outlet). Previously, she worked as a curator at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest (2006-2012), and as an assistant curator at the Galerie für Zeitgenössiche Kunst in Leipzig (2005-2006).

ALANA TRAFICANTE is a curator, writer, and arts administrator working in Toronto and Hamilton. She is the Executive Director of Gallery 44, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for Hamilton’s Supercrawl, and on the Advisory Committee for McMaster Museum of Art. She received an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD University in 2016, and a BA in Art History from the University of Toronto in 2004. Alana is also Adjunct Curator, Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

TING XU is a chartered professional accountant who loves art, ice cream, and travelling. She has been with the board for 3 years. As the Treasurer, she is looking forward to improving the financial processes at Critical Distance to better support the great work from the passionate people of this growing organization.
